During the past few years I worked at a retail store when I returned to school to regroup on my life choices after the economic collapse left me without job options. I collected valuable contacts and personal references, but after a time you lose contact with some and at the very least stay in contact every few months with others.
Graduation is next month, and the retail outlet cut me loose, so I started my job search again for the job position I really want. On about the eighth job posting I realized I had forgotten to validate my references list. After I contacted each one and received their blessings I felt relieved, but the point is to stay in touch with contacts and let them know where you are on your job search..
If you don't follow-up they will find out when they receive a cold call.
